District Cooling

Steam cooling minimizes a building's peak electric demand, which can result in dramatically lower electric costs.

We have systems that provide centrally produced chilled water where chilled water is pumped into buildings for cooling, without the need for customers to purchase, operate and maintain chillers and cooling towers.

Veolia Energy has excess capacity at our central plants, so our customers receive the benefit of redundancy in chilled water capacity, and the economy of scale of a system designed to serve all the customers on the system.

We have worked with our customers on the installation of several types of steam-cooling systems:

  • Steam turbine-driven centrifugal chillers
  • Single stage absorption chillers
  • Two-stage absorption chillers
  • Steam turbine generators that produce electricity and then exhaust into steam chillers, producing electricity and chilled water
